Why This Year Feels Different
The mid-tier is gone. You've got massive indie darlings with publisher backing, and you've got four-person teams working out of apartments. Nothing in between survived the 2024-2025 market correction.
That actually makes the race more interesting. The small teams are hungrier. They're shipping updates every two weeks. They're in their Discord servers at midnight answering questions personally.
The game that wins Game of the Year in December 2026 probably hasn't had its big moment yet. It's still finding its people.
